I never had the privilege of meeting Andy Hankins but I was looking forward to it. Folks I know told me how much he helped and supported organic farmers and all who were interested in learning to grow things. I contacted him by email a couple of years ago with a few questions, and within a matter of days I received a well stuffed envelope in the mail with a bunch of interesting articles about gardening and farming in Virginia. From that time on I have received invitations to a variety of events of interest to gardeners like me. The impression I have of Andy Hankins, though I never met him, is of a man who loved people and loved to help people grow things in any way he could. I wish I had had the privilege of meeting him personally, but he has had a certain impact on me anyway, through the mailings as well as the people who told me to contact him.
