Andy was the key organizer in a grant-funded program sponsored by Total Action Against Poverty in 2000 called Wild Harvest Sector. Andy organized, publicized, and conducted a series of Wild Harvest Sector workshops for residents of rural southwestern Virginia on how to grow, harvest, and market wild simulated American ginseng, goldenseal, and other forest-grown medicinal plants as a local sustainable economic development initiative. Andy had an extensive knowledge in this area and a very kind and generous willingness to share his knowledge and expertise. I will never set foot in the forest without thinking of Andy.
